Biografía
Arleen Cruz-Alicea es directora de cine puertorriqueña, productora, activista del cine nacional y madre. Entre sus créditos está la dirección de CUENTAS PENDIENTES, ANATOMÍA DE LAS CANAS, HISTÉRICAS, y es productora de PERFUME DE GARDENIAS, película narrativa que se estrenó en el Festival de Cine de Tribeca 2021.
Como defensora del cine busca crear iniciativas que apoyen nuestra producción cinematográfica nacional, especialmente para las mujeres de la industria. MUJERES DEL CINE BORICUA, es un podcast en desarrollo que retrata a las mujeres de nuestra historia cinematográfica. Es Directora Ejecutiva de RUTA CRÍTICA, una incubadora d proyectos de cine que busca potenciar las empresas productoras puertorriqueñas para la viabilidad d sus proyectos. Fue presidenta de AdocPR (Asociación de Documentales de Puerto Rico), coordinó sus iniciativas educativas y de cabildeo, y produjo la primera edición de AdocPR Lab en 2019. Ha sido jurado de múltlipes Festivales e iniciativas de cine nacionales e internacionales. Ha formado parte de paneles y foros relacionados con la producción de cine. Es parte de la Junta Consultiva del Puerto RIco Film Festival.
Su corto documental COMIDA PA' LOS POBRES forma parte del HINDSIGHT PROJECT, una colaboración entre Firelight Media, Reel South y CAAM, que estrenará en AFI DOCS. Actualmente trabaja en la postproducción de su corto documental CACEROLA GIRL, y en la escritura de su próximo largometraje documental, AIDA & JOSSIE.
Como productora tiene varios proyectos en desarrollo como el documental SYLVIA REXACH, POR SIEMPRE de Ivonne Belén, el largometraje de ficción LA GRAN DESILUSIÓN de Kisha Tikina Burgos, y el largometraje animado LOA: KILL YOUR MASTERS de Carlos Zerpa, que participó de Locarno’s 2023 Open Doors y del Nouveau Marché del Festival Du Nouveau Cinéma.en Montreal.

Arleen Cruz-Alicea is a Puertorrican film director, producer, cinema advocate and mother. Among her credits she is director of CUENTAS PENDIENTES [Unsettled Accounts], ANATOMÍA DE LAS CANAS [ANATOMY OF THE CRONE GODDESS], HISTÉRICAS [HYSTERICAL], and is the producer of PERFUME DE GARDENIAS, a narrative film that premiered at Tribeca Film Festival 2021.
As a cinema advocate she is devoted to creating initiatives that support our national cinema production, especially for women in the industry. MUJERES DEL CINE BORICUA (WOMEN OF BORICUA CINEMA), is a podcast in development that portrays women in our filmmaking history. Is Executive Director of RUTA CRÍTICA, a film incubator that promotes the viability of Puerto Rican films. She was President for AdocPR (Puerto Rico Documentary Association), coordinated their educational and lobbying initiatives, and produced the first edition of AdocPR Lab in 2019. She has been a juror in many national and international film festivals and initiatives. She has been part of panels and forums on film production. She is part of the Advisory Board of the Puerto Rico Film Festival.
Her short documentary COMIDA PA’ LOS POBRES is part of the Hindsight Project, a collaboration between Firelight Media, Reel South and CAAM, and she is currently working in post production of her short documentary CACEROLA GIRL, and writing her next feature-length documentary, AIDA & JOSSIE.
